Design of a new exit portal which allows visitors to conclude their visit of the Butterfly House, and circulate more freely upon exiting.
The Butterfly House at Melbourne Zoo is the most popular exhibit. Previously it was hindered by the former entrance and exit, which made it difficult to circulate and did not meet disability access compliance requirements. The form of the exterior mimics a shipping container which was contextual to the Butterfly and Norfolk Island exhibit adjacent. The rusted steel cladding provides a natural texture to integrate with the site.
